Odisha Weather Update: Red warning issued for 12 districts in Odisha

Incessant rainfall activity will continue in several parts of Odisha in the next 3 hours, predicted India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Today.

Moderate to intense thunderstorm with lightning, gusty surface wind speed 50-60 kmph and moderate to intense rain likely to continue in some parts of districts of Khordha, Keonjhar, Cuttack, Kandhamal, Boudh, Cuttack, Anugul, Dhenkanal, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, and Kendrapada, during next 3 hours.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also issued yellow warning of thunderstorm and rain to occur in six districts- Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Nuapada, Kalahandi and Nabarangpur.

The daytime temperature will remain under control till March 23 by the impact of western wind, said the IMD.

As per the forecast of the IMD yesterday, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundergarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Deogarh, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal and thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the rest districts of Odisha in the next 24 hours.

Even though the untimely rainfall has given relief to the people from heat conditions, it has become a matter of concern for farmers. at the same time, strong winds and lightning have claimed three lives in the past two days and destroyed properties. Mud houses in many places collapsed unable to withstand the roughness of the weather.

Light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at many places over the Coastal districts of Odisha like Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Angul, Sundergarh and at a few places over the rest districts of the State informed IMD.
