Bhubaneswar, Apr 8 : In a tragic incident, three women were killed and five others admitted to hospital with critical injuries after lightning struck them at Karanjia NAC in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district on Saturday afternoon.
Sources said a pregnant woman and a one-and-half-year-old child were among those injured in the mishap.
All the injured have been admitted to Karanjia Hospital.
The incident occurred while the villagers gathered at a house in Ward No 15 of the Karanjia NAC to pay their homage and participate in the last rites of the person who died.
While some people were inside the house some others were waiting under a tree outside the house when the lightning struck them.
The three women who died were standing under the tree.
Women and Child Development Minister Basanti Hembram who lives nearby visited the spot after the mishap.
