Exclusive: India the most dangerous place for girl-child & women in the world

The most recent reported incident of a 3 yr old girl in Delhi should have rocked the conscience of one and all.

Over 33, 000 girl children were reported to have been raped or gang raped in India and the maximum no of the total were from states like Maharashtra, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and few others.

The figures indeed are flabbergasting and it leaves a majority of us to ponder as what is wrong with such perpetrators. And shockingly some of the incidents of such crimes were committed by relatives or neighbouring people .

Is India the most dangerous country for women and girl childs,the question keep rattling conscience of millions world over and this analysis stands in high contrast to the general concept that India is a God fearing nation.

According to a report done by PTI as many as 109 children were sexually abused every day in India in 2018, according to the data by the National Crime Record Bureau, which showed a 22 per cent jump in such cases from the previous year.

According to the recently released NCRB data, 32,608 cases were reported in 2017 while 39,827 cases were reported in 2018 under the Protection of Children(POCSO).

And shockingly the majority incidents of child and women abuse or assault takes place in the national capital which is under the direct vigil of the twin administration, the Centre and the Delhi government.

Delhi topped among 19 metropolitan cities in crimes against women, accounting for 32.20 per cent of total cases, according to the latest report of NCRB. Delhi also reported the highest number of girl child rapes at 833 as compared to other metropolitan cities with over two million population in 2021. This means over two minors were raped every day on an average in Delhi in 2021.

In 2021, Delhi registered 13,892 cases of crimes against women, a surge of more than 40 per cent compared to 2020. In 2020, 9,782 cases were recorded. Delhi was followed by Mumbai (5,543 cases) and Bengaluru (3,127 cases).

The national capital has also reported the highest number of abduction and kidnapping cases of women at 3,948 out of a total of 8,664 cases in all metropolitan cities. Delhi also topped in cases of cruelty by husbands at 4,674.

The NCRB data also showed that Delhi registered 136 cases of dowry death in 2021, which is 36.26 per cent of total cases in 19 metropolitan cities.

Delhi also reported 2,022 cases of assault on women with intent to outrage their modesty last year.

The data showed 1,357 cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (girl child victims only) were registered in 2021.

Delhi Recorded Maximum Kidnapping Cases Last Year

The latest NCRB data shows the national capital recorded the highest number of kidnapping cases among the 19 metropolitan cities last year. Delhi saw 5,475 kidnapping cases in 2020 as against 4,011 the previous year.

Of the total people kidnapped, police managed to rescue 5,274 people, including 3689 women. Seventeen of the kidnapped people, including eight women, were found dead.

Delhi, however, registered a marginal decline in the number of murder cases. It reported 454 cases of murder in 2021 as compared to 461 in 2020 and 500 in 2019, according to the report.

A majority of the murders were the fallout of various disputes, including those related to property and family.
