Caricature over wrestlers vs WFI chief Brij Bhushan, the latter should resign first

By D N Singh

It is nothing short of a caricature if one sees the entire gamut of the development that created such a mess out of a sporting fraternity.

There are few points those cannot be ignored that, post the allegations and then two consecutive ‘dharana’ at Jantar Mantar and the FIRs the police’s snail-paced approach reveal a political intent to bulldoze the sentiments of the wrestlers allegedly fell victim to the lust of Brij Bushan Saran Singh, President of the Wrestling Federation of India(WFI).

Secondly, under the law a single complaint of sexual outrage from a woman or physical assault, the man is always arrested or detained for questioning.

But, in the case of the alleged perpetrator Singh, the law keepers seem to have shackle the procedure by not asking Singh to resign from his post or the party(BJP) has not paid any heed towards the allegations.

He should have been asked to resigns first to allow an impartial probe. That did not happen.

What the police is doing speaks about a languor which is unprecedented in any case of outrage where a politician-cum-MP involved.

It didn’t take minutes to arrest Pawan Khera when it uttered a reference to the name of the Prime Minister which was not a criminal act which attract an arrest or detention. That too he was taken to custody when on board a flight.

What about the case of Rahul Gandhi’s utterance in 2019 when he made a swipe at Modi community to have become common with all charges of corruption. Not only he was sentenced to a two year jail by a Surat court while the Congress leader made the statements in an election speech in another state.

Then followed his disqualification from his Lok Sabha membership.

But in the case of Brij Bhushan nothing happened even after the nationally and internationally reputed wrestlers of India were screaming their hearts out from Jantar Mantar.

It cannot be accepted that, the allegations were just fictitious and were a product of febrile imagination of some women. There cannot so much smoke without a fire.

It is like a fight between David & Goliath. And some leaders with all the civilized powers in their command try to walk on the truth and take the issue beyond all narratives.

Now he says that he is ready for a narco test if Bajrang Punia and Vinesh Phogat simultaneously be narco tested.

Bajrang and Vinesh are among the grapplers who have been protesting against Brij Bhushan for his alleged sexual harassment of women grapplers.

It is not easy to believe that the grapplers who could put the opponents on the floor, should ever indulge in shadow boxing for mere publicity.
