Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh issue has so far failed to elicit any response from the political arena of the ruling dispensation at the Centre.

Singh was alleged of sexual harassment and misconduct disposed at the national wrestlers of the country and he has been trying to drowse the issue with frequent denials.

Interestingly, there has been no serious reaction from the BJP’s top  echelons like the PM, Home Minister and not even from the union sports minister.

It is  little unusual a characteristic as has been demonstrated by the centre to such sensitive issues and that too national and international level wrestlers who brought glory for the nation.

It is clear that the BJP here adopts a retreat position till the issue dies down. Neither the law of the land caught up with the issue.  Let alone a serious probe ordered.

But Singh or his protectors had never thought that the protesting wrestlers would come back to sit in protest at the Jaantar Mantar and this time invite political attention also.

Federation of India chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, accused of sexual harassment by several female wrestlers still maintains the same stance but no one from the ministry even thought about a probe.

If it is a fact that Vinesh Phogat claiming that she told Prime Minister Narendra Modi about Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh’s conduct in 2021 then the issue assumes more weghtage.

When the protests first broke out in January, the BJP seemed to have the matter under control. Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh was presented as an outlier within the party.

The wrestlers too, made it a point to insulate the party from their criticism of Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Opposition leaders weren’t allowed on their platform then.

In January, the wrestlers were given an assurance from the government that their concerns will be addressed and this made them stand down. But something went wrong between January and April.

But as it appears, the Centre either chose to linger or they just underestimated the wrestlers.
