Star, Gardner Bag Aus Cricket Top Awards

Canberra, Jan 29: Mitchell Starc and Ashleigh Gardner took top honours at the Australian Cricket Awards on Saturday. Aussie pacer Starc was awarded Alan Border Medal while all-rounder Gardner got the Belinda Clark Award as the country’s leading female player. Starc picked up 107 votes to win the top award just ahead of Marsh with 106 votes and Travis Head with 72.
Gardner picked up 54 votes to win the award ahead of Beth Mooney (47) and Alyssa Healy (39). Starc also became the fifth fast bowler after Glenn McGrath, Brett Lee, Mitchell Johnson and Pat Cummins in the 22 year history of the awards to claim the honour. The award winners decided by votes from players, umpires and media representatives throughout the year, were announced during the lunch break of the Women’s Ashes Test in the capital city here.
