Kohli becomes highest run-scorer in men’s T20 WCs

Adelaide, Nov 2: Virat Kohli has become the all-time leading run-scorer in men’s T20 World Cups, surpassing ICC Hall of Famer Mahela Jayawardena’s record of 1016 runs, set in 2014.

Kohli achieved the feat during the India’s fourth group 2 game against Bangladesh here on Wednesday.

Tucking Taskin Ahmed for a single, Kohli edged past Jayawardena’s 1016 in 23 innings, eight innings quicker than the Sri Lankan, at an average of over 85 and a strike rate of 131.

The 34-year-old has began the 2022 T20 World Cup on 845 runs and scored two consecutive unbeaten half-centuries – against Pakistan and Netherlands – before being dismissed for 12 against South Africa. He then scored unbeaten 64 against Bangalesh in Adelaide on Wednesday.

Kohli, approaching the 4000-run milestone in T20Is, also holds the record for being the highest run-scorer in T20 internationals.
