BWF Announces Thomas, Uber Cup Draws

Bangkok, April 1: The Badminton World Federation (BWF) on Friday announced draws for the Thomas and Uber Cup finals scheduled to take place from May 8 to 15. A total of 32 teams –16 in Thomas and Uber each — represented by 20 member associations will compete in the competition.
The 16 teams are divided in four groups A, B, C and D. The teams are seeded based on the combined world ranking points of each member associations’ top three singles and top two doubles pairs in the world ranking points table. The top two seeded teams will be placed rather than drawn by lot into positions as per the BWF competition regulations. The 1st seed is placed at the top of Group A and the 2nd seed will be placed at the top of Group D.
The 3rd seed and 4th seed will be drawn by lot at the top of Groups B and C. The 5th seed to 8th seed drawn to the second position of the groups. Then the 9th seed to 12th seed are placed at the third position followed by the 13th to 16th seeds on the fourth position of the groups.
In the Thomas Cup, India are drawn in Group C on second position with Chinese Taipie on top. Germany and Canada on third and fourth position respectively. Group A: Indonesia, South Korea, Thailand, Singapore Group B: Denmark, China, France, Algeria Group C: Chinese Taipie, India, Germany, Cananda Group D: Japan, Malaysia, England, New Zealand In the Uber Cup, India are placed in Group D on second position where Korea are on top followed by Canada on Third and America on fourth position. Group A: Japan, Indonesia, France, Germany Group B: China, Chinese Taipei, Spain, Australia Group C: Thailand, Denmark, Malaysia, Egypt The top two teams from each group will advance to the knockout stage of the competition.
