RUSSIA-UKRAINE CRISIS

Ukraine-Russia Peace Talks End Without Progress

Ankara, March 10 : The peace talks held between Russia and Ukraine on Thursday ended without an agreement on humanitarian corridors or ceasefire. In a press conference following the short meeting, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said that he had raised the issue of establishing a humanitarian corridor to allow civilians to flee from Mariupol, but “unfortunately Minister Lavrov was not in a position to commit himself to it”. He further said a 24-hour ceasefire was raised “to resolve the most pressing humanitarian issues”.

However, the talks did not make progress as “it seems there are other decision makers for this matter in Russia”. Kuleba said they did agree to continue efforts to “seek a solution to the humanitarian issues on the ground,” and added that he is ready to meet again “in this format if there are prospects for substantial discussion and seeking solutions,” CNN reported. Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has claimed his country “did not attack” its neighbour (Ukraine). According to CNN, the minister said there are no plans for Russia to attack other countries and reiterated that a “situation in Ukraine” posed a “direct threat to the Russian Federation”.
