Vehicle Ramming: “Prashant Jagdev Will Be Arrested After Treatment”- Central Range IG  

Bhubaneswar, Mar 12: Suspended Biju Janata Dal MLA from Chilika, Prashant Jagdev who is now under treatment, will soon be arrested on the charges of attempt to murder case over the alleged mowing down his vehicle into a crowd, injuring several persons at Banapur, said Inspector General (Central Range) Narasingha Bhol.

“On the basis of the report of the police officials, a case has been registered against the legislator at Banpur police station. The SDPO has been entrusted with the probe into the case,” Bhol said while briefing the media.

“Though the Chilika MLA is undergoing treatment, he is under police escort. As soon as his treatment is completed, he will be arrested and forwarded to jail,” he added.

Terming the incident as inhumane act, Bhol said, “Six people, 10 policemen and two journalists have been injured and all of them have been shifted to hospital for treatment. The condition of three of them is stated to be critical. Arrangements have been made to provide them best possible treatment.”

The IG Police said Jagdev has been charged with serious offences like attempt to murder, obstructing police personnel from performing their duty, injuring public, using car as weapon to hurt people.

“There are several cases pending against him. Charge-sheet have been filed in seven cases, out of which, the court has taken cognizance in four cases and he is facing trials,” Bhol said.

“We have taken serious note of the brutal act by the legislator. A DSP-ranked officer has been given the responsibility of the probe. Many people have recorded the barbaric incident in their cellphones. Those electronic evidence will be brought under the purview of investigation,” said the Police IG.

Meanwhile Prohibitory orders under section 144 of the CrPC has been clamped in Banpur Town area to prevent any untoward incidents in wake of unrest after the incident.
