Guts Of Iron: Odisha Para-Athlete Sets World Record

Bhubaneswar, Jan 16: Kamalakanta Nayak, a para-athlete from Puri district brought fame for Odisha by entering the Guinness Book of World Records today.

Nayak covered the record distance of 183.54 kms from Rajmahal square to Master Canteen square by driving to and fro for 161 times on a manual wheelchair. The distance between Rajmahal square to Mater Canteen square is 1.14 kms.

Earlier, Mario Trinidad from Portugal was holding the world record for covering the maximum distance in a manual wheelchair. He had covered 182.4 kms.

Nayak started his event to break the world record on Sunday. He has targeted to cover 220 kms in the wheelchair in 24 hours. In between Nayak is having his food, therapy, CIC and hydration.

He has covered 43 kms in 4 hours, 89 kms in 9 hours, 118 kms in 12 hours, 165 kms in 18 hours and 183 kms approximately in 20 hours.

Officials of different government departments and institutions were present during the event.
