Odisha DGP Suspends A Police Officer For Negligence Of Duty

Bhubaneswar, June 28: Odisha Director General of Police S K Bansal on Tuesday placed Kisannagar Police IIC Sasmita Rana under suspension for negligence of duty.

An order issued by the DGP said pending drawls of departmental proceedings, Sasmita Rana, IIC , Kisannagar Police station of Cuttack district is placed under suspension with immediate effect for her negligence in duty.

Rana was placed under suspension in connection with the death of a person of Ishani Brahmapur Saiparua village under the Kisannagar Police station limit.

Reports said one Gunanidhi Bisoi had approached the Police for assistance in a land dispute case.

As the police did not take any action he poured petrol on his body in front of the Kishannagar Police station and set himself on fire on June 23 last.

He was rescued and rushed to SCB Medical college and hospital Cuttack but died on the next day while undergoing treatment.

Odisha Human Rights Commission took Suo Motu cognizance of the incident and directed the DGP on June 24 to inquire into the matter and submit a report on July 25, the next date of hearing.
