Bereft Of Bare Minimum, Voting Boycott In Balabhadrapur;  ‘Polling Agent’ Controversy Voting Halted At Sanamaheswar Panchayat, Nuapada

Nuapada/Keonjhar, Feb 20: While the third phase voting of panchayat polls enden today in Odisha, polling has been halted at booth no 13 of Sanamaheswar Panchayat in Nuapada district when it was spotted after a voter of another Ward seen engaged as ‘agent’ here.

The third phase of the three-tier Panchayat elections in Odisha has been held for 18,495 Wards, 1382 Gram Panchayats and 171 Zilla Parishad (ZP) seats in 63 blocks of 29 districts.

On the other hand the villagers of Balabhadrapur under Naradpur Panchayat of Keonjhar district reportedly boycotted the elections protesting alleged lack of basic amenities in their areas. Lack of drinking water, road & electricity, voters boycotted polling at booth no 6, 7 & 8 in Balabhadrapur.

Hence, the irate villagers decided not to franchise their votes, citing that their long-standing demands are yet to be fulfilled by the elected representatives.
