Odisha reports over 1000 Covid cases for second consecutive day

Bhubaneswar, Jul 16 : For the second consecutive day the daily Covid load in Odisha surpassed 1k mark as 1065 new infections were reported in the past 24 hours taking the tally in the state to 12,98,240.

Health department sources said out of 1065 new cases, as many as 624 were recorded from the quarantine centres and 441 as local contact cases.

At least 121 positive cases were detected in the age group of 0 to 18 years.

Khordha district reported 361,the highest in the state followed by Cuttack (135), Sundargarh (111) and Sambalpur ( 58).These four districts together accounted for 62 per cent of the total new cases in the state.

The active cases in the state on Saturday crossed the 5000 mark to remain at 5376 of which Khordha district alone contributed 1941 cases followed by Cuttack (870), Sundargarh (516) and Puri (228).

The three coastal districts of Khordha, Cuttack and Puri together have 56 per cent of the total active cases in the state.

Official sources said 614 Covid patients were cured from the virus taking the total recoveries in the state so far to 12,83,683.

The test positivity rate (TPR)of the state further surged to 5.59 per cent, higher than the national average of 4.8 per cent. At least five districts have been declared as Red Zone for registering the TPR more than 7.5 per cent.
