Jajpur, Apr 14: The baby was just 4 days old. But that innocent was abandoned by the family just because he was a hermaphrodite baby, a baby having both male and female sex organs or other sexual characteristics.
Reportedly, the incident occurred at at Life Care Hospital in Jajpur Town where a woman gave birth to the hermaphrodite baby on April 10 following which the doctor informed the parents that the newborn is neither a male nor female.
Thereafter, the father of the newborn baby asked the woman to abandon the child and hand her over to an orphanage. However, upon her denial, her husband and in-laws left them behind at the hospital.
Even the Indian constitution has given all right adding a column respecting this particular gender, the narrow-mindedness of such has led to the footfall of human civilisation.
Recently, when on one hand Salma begum, a transwoman has scripted history by becoming Odisha’s first transgender lawyer to register at the state Bar Council and join as a practising advocate, incidents like abandoning hermaphrodite baby is literally getting difficult to assimilate .
Meanwhile, the transgender association in the district visited the hospital to take a look at the health condition of the mother-child duo. They also demanded the intervention of the district administration. The District Collector, Chakraborty Singh Rathore, has promised to take charge of this situation.
“The misunderstanding between the couple will be taken care of by the protection officer through counseling and the other one will be concerned with the baby,” he added. Rathore also said that he has directed the Child Welfare Committee regarding this matter.
