SJTA deposits over 500 kg of silver in district treasury

Puri : The Sri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) today deposited over 500 KGs of silver in the safe vault of district treasury.
Amid tight security over five hundred kilos of silver was transferred from the temple to the treasury.
A Mumbai based devotee of lord Jagannath has donated 1345 kg.of silver to coat the temple doors.
Before coating the doors with silver, temple administration had replaced the worn out wooden doors and rebuilt those with imported teak wood from Burma.
Earlier the design on the line of traditional Odishan art was passed in the temple managing committee and clearance was obtained from Archaelogical Survey of India(ASI).
Silversmiths engaged by the donor worked on it and fixed six doors including Jai Vijay, Satpahach and Beheran three main doors in a secured enclosure.
One Kalahat door has been left as it is the door to Garbhagruha (sanctum sanctorum).
Work on this door will be carried out during the annual Rath Yatra when deities will be away from the main temple informed Ajay Kumar Jena the Administrator development to media persons.
Since next Rath Yatra is months away it is not wise to keep these silver in temple facility the SJTA has resolved to deposit the silver in the treasury the Administrator said.
Doors of other small temples in the complex like Vimala and Mahalaxmi will be replaced with new doors and silver plate in a phased manner it is learnt.
