Jharsuguda : With Odisha clocking a rise in crime against women in the pandemic year (2020), the crime against women are even on a rise as a woman was allegedly beaten to death by her husband over dowry demand at Guchhapali village under Kolabira police limits of Jharsuguda district on Monday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Sunita Dansena, daughter of Jibardhan Behera of Dandeipali village in Sambalpur district.
According to the complainant, Sunita had tied a nuptial knot with Ramesh Dansena of Guchhapali around three years back and Ramesh used to torture her to bring a motorcycle as dowry.
Reportedly, the incident took place after Sunita allegedly did not fulfill his demand for a motorcycle as a dowry. Irked over the matter, Ramesh bludgeoned his wife to death on the road last evening. Later, villagers overpowered him and handed him over to the police. The cops also seized the body and sent it for post-mortem.
A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
