Odisha minister urges Pradhan to extend admission deadlines in Central Universities till September end

Bhubaneswar : Odisha government on Thursday requested Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to instruct the Central Universities to give time up to September-end for
students taking admission in PG courses.
Odisha Higher Education minister Arun Sahu in a letter to Mr.Pradhan said many students of Odisha could not take admission in certain central universities as the universities completed their admission process in advance violating the UGC guidelines.
Mr Sahoo said to ensure a uniform academic calendar in the entire country in view of the COVID-19 related dislocation, the University Grants Commission (UGC) had issued a guideline in July, 2021.
He said as per the UGC guidelines, all UG Final Year/Final Semester examinations have to be completed by August 31, admission to PG courses be completed by September 30 and post-graduate (PG) classes to be commenced from October 1.
Mr.Sahu said in compliance with the guidelines, all UG Final Year/Final Semester examinations were completed in Odisha by August 31 and their results are expected to be published by September 15. In some cases, results have already been published, he said
He said the central universities should extend time for admission to enable the students to submit their UG Final Year/ Final Semester mark sheets so that no meritorious student is debarred from taking admission in PG courses.
But “It seems that some Central universities have deviated from the UGC-prescribed datelines and completed their admission process in August.
These universities have debarred the students of Odisha from taking admission as they could not submit their UG Final Year/Final Semester mark sheets,” Mr Sahoo said and requested the Union Minister to intervene into the matter
A couple of days ago Mr Pradhan had requested Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to declare the final semester result and provide the mark sheet to undergraduate students to enable them to take admission in various state and central universities in the country.
The Union Minister said he was distressed to learn that many students have already missed admission deadlines for Central University of Mizoram and Bharathiar University due to non-publication of the results and non issuance of mark sheets.
