India Witnesses A Spike: Omicron Cases Rises To 781, Delhi Reports The Highest 238 Infections

New Delhi, Dec 29: India‘s tally of the new COVID-19 variant Omicron reached 781 on Wednesday.

Out of the 781 cases, Delhi reported the maximum cases at 238, followed by Maharashtra 167 and Gujarat 73, said the Health Ministry’s data on Wednesday.

Other states reporting Omicron cases include Kerala 65, Telangana 62, Rajastan 46, Tamil Nadu 34, Karnataka 34 and West Bengal 11.

Of these, 241 people have been discharged following their recovery from the virus.

Meanwhile, India reported 9,195 fresh COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, 44 per cent higher than Tuesday’s 6,358 cases.

302 people have died in the country in the same period from COVID pushing the total tally of deceased to 4,80,592.

The government has been continuously speeding up the vaccination drive across the country.

Over 143 crore vaccine doses have been administered in India, making a significant milestone in the fight against the COVID-19.

The recovery tally rose to 3,42,51,292 as 7,347 people recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours. Active cases in the country stood at 77,002.

According to the bulletin issued by the Ministry on Monday 67.52 Crore tests for COVID-19 have been done so far.

“India has administered 143.15 crore doses of the COVID-19 vaccine so far under the ongoing nationwide vaccination drive” Ministry data said.
