Gp Cap Singh’s mortal remains flown to Bhopal

Bengaluru: The body of Group Captain Varun Singh, the sole survivor of a helicopter crash of December 8 who died on Wednesday, was airlifted to Bhopal from the Yelahanka Air Force Station after IAF officials and dignitaries paid their last respects here on Thursday.

Among those who laid wreaths on the body were Air Marshal Manvinder Singh and Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot. Officials of the Army and Navy also laid wreaths before the flight took off at 12 noon.

The body was taken to Yelahanka from Command Hospital at 10.30 am. The family members of Singh accompanied the body to Bhopal. They included his father Col. PK Singh (Retired), Uma Singh (mother), Geetanjali Singh (wife), Radduman Singh (son) and Aradhya Singh (daughter).

The funeral is expected to take place on Friday. Singh was the lone survivor of the Coonoor helicopter crash that of December 8 killed Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat, his wife Madhulika Rawat and 11 others instantly. Group Captain Singh passed away on Wednesday after battling for his life at the Command Hospital. A probe has been initiated to find out the reason for the crash.
