Dam Safety Bill listed for consideration in upper house

New Delhi, Nov 29: The Dam Safety Bill 2019 is listed for consideration and passing in the Rajya Sabha on Monday amid expectations of stormy first day of the winter session of the Parliament.

The Bill seeks to provide for surveillance, inspection, operation and maintenance of the specified dam for prevention of dam failure related disasters.

It also provides for institutional mechanism to ensure their safe functioning.

The Bill was earlier passed by the Lok Sabha.

As per the list of business of Rajya Sabha for Monday, following new members taking oath of allegiance to the Constitution the House would make obituary references to the sitting member (Congress MP Oscar Fernandes) and former members.

Biju Janta Dal’s Subhash Chandra Singh would present a petition in the House underlining the need to conserve and revitalise the dying rivers across the country.

The first day of Winter Session of Parliament is set to see opposition parties cornering the government over a range of issues including Farm Laws, Pegasus, price rise and Chinese aggression on the border.
